Second-Half Surge Lifts Lions Over Centre

DANVILLE, KENTUCKY — The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team defeated Centre College on the road Monday night, 61–58.

In the first half, the Mount's offense struggled to score. Centre opened the game on a 10–2 run. After this early surge, the Lions cut the Colonels' lead down to six, but ultimately went into halftime trailing 31–20.

The second half began with Centre going on a 6–2 run, but from that point on it was all Mount, as the Lions outscored Centre 39-21 over the final 20 minutes. Michael Loftis came up with a steal that led to an assist on a Collin Buck layup, giving the Lions their first lead of the game at 42–41. Mt. St. Joseph took the lead at the 12:45 mark and never gave it back. In the closing seconds, Joe Brand knocked down two free throws to seal the 61–58 victory. The Lions held Centre to 36.67% shooting from the field in the second half, including just 1-for-9 from three.

The Lions were led by Joe Brand, who scored 12 points, while Collin Buck and Cooper Ollis added 11 points each. Jason Lavender contributed 10 points. Brand also grabbed six rebounds, and Jay Bilton pulled down five.

UP NEXT: The Lions will host John Carroll on Saturday, November 22, at 8:00 PM for the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic.
