CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Mount St. Joseph University men's basketball team was defeated by Mount Union on day two of the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic, 81–57.
Mount Union came out strong in the first half, jumping out to a 24–8 lead midway through the period. After Griffen Derry scored five quick points, along with baskets from Landon Kidwell and Matthew Menninger, the Lions cut the Purple Raiders' lead to single digits with a little over four minutes remaining. The Mount added two free throws from Cam Craig and went into halftime trailing 34–19.
Early in the second half, the Lions scored on a three-pointer from Jason Lavender, and Joe Brand added three points at the free-throw line. Mount Union maintained an 11–15 point lead until Michael Loftis hit a three at the 8:22 mark, cutting the Purple Raiders' lead to single digits. However, Mount Union pulled away for the remainder of the half and secured the 81–57 victory.
The Mount was led by Michael Loftis, who scored 11 points, while Matthew Menninger added 10. Cam Craig contributed 9 points and 3 rebounds, and Griffen Derry added 8 points.
