Lions' men's tennis team splits two weekend matches

The College of Mount St. Joseph men's tennis team had a busy weekend, playing on both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. The Mount lost at HCAC-foe Anderson University, 7-2 on Saturday, but bounced back to win at home over non-conference Berea College, 6-3. The Lions, 2-4 overall, 0-3 in the HCAC will be back in action on April 9 when they host an HCAC match against Hanover College.

In the team's match against Anderson, first singles player William Knoll (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) recorded a three set win. Christian Gleason (Salem, IN/Salem) and Destin Lewis (Union, OH/Northmont) combined at third doubles to record an 8-6 win over their Ravens' opponents. Ian Rowe (Winchester, KY/George Rogers Clark) played well at third singles, falling 7-5, 6-2; while Gleason dropped his sixth singles match in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 6-10.

The Lions won four of six singles matches against Berea, with Knoll leading the way at first singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Tony Faillace (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) posted a 7-6 (5), 6-1 at fifth singles. Knoll and Rowe teamed at first doubles for a 9-7 win while teammates Gleason and Lewis recorded an 8-4 victory at third doubles.
