Mount St. Joseph University Athletics: Built on Excellence, Driven by Purpose

Mount St. Joseph University proudly sponsors 21 intercollegiate athletic programs, all rooted in a student-first philosophy. Competing as members of NCAA Division III, our student-athletes are fueled by passion—not just for sport, but for the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of life. At the Mount, athletics serve as a vehicle for growth, where success is measured not just by wins and losses, but by the development of life skills, leadership, and academic achievement in a supportive environment that promotes health and wellness.

Under the leadership of the Vice President and Director of Athletics, MSJ Athletics has cultivated a championship culture—one that celebrates victories on the field, in the classroom, and beyond.

A Record of Athletic Achievement

Recent years have seen an unprecedented run of success for the Lions:

  • Football secured its third consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championship in 2024.

  • Women’s Golf captured its first HCAC championship in 2024 and earned the program’s first NCAA Division III Championship berth.

  • Women’s Soccer swept both the HCAC regular season and postseason titles, advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

  • Women’s Volleyball earned an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

In the 2024–25 academic year alone, MSJ Athletics celebrated:

  • 44 Conference Players of the Week

  • 62 All-Conference honorees

  • 14 All-Tournament Team selections

  • 6 HCAC Athletes of the Year

  • 3 Coaches of the Year

  • 1 Coordinator of the Year

  • 9 All-Region Athletes

Academic Excellence On and Off the Field

MSJ student-athletes embody the Division III ideal of balance, maintaining a commitment to academic rigor alongside athletic pursuits:

  • 125 student-athletes earned Academic All-League recognition.

  • 10 student-athletes were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators.

  • Multiple teams received academic honors from their national coaches’ associations.

Proud Members of NCAA Division III and the HCAC

Mount St. Joseph University is one of 442 schools that compete at the NCAA Division III level and is a proud member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC)—a consortium of 10 private institutions across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, known collectively as "America’s Heartland." All MSJ athletic programs compete in the HCAC, with the exception of Men’s Volleyball, which competes in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL).
