Five women traveled to Manchester University for the 2017 HCAC Championships on Saturday October 28. The warm weather that the men had seemed to disappear for the women as snow flurries fell just before the start of the race.
Junior, Maria Waters (Cincinnati, OH/ Mercy) was the top finisher for the Lions with a time of 24:34.55 which put her in 16th place. The next two runners to follow where Freshman, Vanessa Cappel (Cincinnati, OH / Princeton) and Junior, Julia Cason (Cincinnati, Ohio / McAuley) who finished right after each other with times of 28:25.06 and 28:39.35. Finishing fourth and fifth for the Lions were Sophomore, Kayla Gibson (Reading, OH / Reading) and Senior, Sarah Gravunder (Piqua, OH / Lehman Catholic) with times of 32:41.70 and 35:12.17.
Despite the cold weather, the women ran very well as a team. Maria Waters was named the Honorable Mention All-Conference Team for her 16th place finish. The women ran well as team and they will continue this in their next meet on October 11 in the Great Lakes Regional Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University.
