The Lions stretch their unbeaten streak to 6 Games as Lions defeat Franklin

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, October 16th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Grizzlies of Franklin College to Schueler Field for Homecoming Weekend. The Lions scored in the first half to give them a 1-0 lead and carried that lead for the rest of the game extending their unbeaten streak to six games.

In the first half the Lions were dominant, holding the ball for the majority of the half. The Lions struck first in the 20th minute from a familiar scorer. Mckenzie Schneeman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Deer Park) scored her 7th goal of her freshman season. Emily Reichling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) whipped a corner kick into the box. The Grizzlies goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball with a punch but instead found the foot of Schneeman who lifted the ball past the defense into the top half of the net giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage.

The Lions defense was spectacular in the first half only allowing one shot which was saved by Senior Goalkeeper Megan Gilpin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers). After 45 minutes of play the Lions were on top 1-0.

In the second half the Lions continued to dominate the possession and hold the Grizzlies offensively. The Lions held the Grizzlies to just 3 shots, 2 on target, to preserve their one goal lead. The Lions offense had a pair of opportunities but could not score. After 90 minutes of play the Lions were victorious by a score of 1-0.

At halftime we honored our 5 seniors on the Women's Soccer squad. We honored Seniors Megan Gilpin, Emily Reichling, Madeline Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy), Catherine Hatfield (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia), and Harleigh Warren (Colerain, Ohio/Northwest). We appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to MSJ Women's Soccer and wish them the best of luck in the future! We will certainly miss seeing them at Schueler Field!
