THE BASICS:
The Lions of Mount St. Joseph defeated the Grizzlies of Franklin College Saturday afternoon by a score of 82-70. The Lions go ahead early in the matchup and never looked back. After the first quarter the Lions held a 21-point lead, their largest of the contest. Their success continued throughout the contest and finished ahead by 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
The first quarter for the Lions was a big one. They surged out of the gates with excellent 3-point shooting. Senior
Jaleah Fair-Harris began the game with consecutive 3-pointers immediately giving the Lions a 6-0 lead. On top of that the Lions then went on a 7-2 run making the score 13-2 just 4 minutes into the contest. The Lions stayed hot through the end of the quarter finishing the first quarter up 33-12 while shooting 70% from beyond the arc and 55% from the field.
The Lions in the 2
nd quarter struggled offensively but were able to keep the Grizzlies far enough away to hold a 44-31 lead going into the break. In the third quarter the Lions let the Grizzlies trim the lead once again but not enough to slow the Lions down, they lead by 8 going into the fourth.
With 4 minutes remaining the Lions only held a 1 point lead but not for long. Sophomore
Carlee Daulton would hit a 3-point bucket followed by 2 consecutive
Aliyah Huff baskets and another Daulton 3-pointer giving the Lions an 11-point lead with 1:42 remaining. As the final buzzer went off the Lions celebrated an 82-70 victory moving their record to 4-2.
STANDOUTS:
Four Lions ended with double-digits in the contest as Senior
Maddie Haberthy led the pack once again with 17 points, 6 steals, and 4 rebounds. Joining her was Sophomore
Chloe Jansen who added 16 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Senior
Aliyah Huff had a career day scoring a career high 15 points. Finally,
Carlee Daulton ended with 12 points going 3-4 from beyond the arc and adding 6 rebounds.
