Box Score 2 Angola, Indiana- After a long offseason the Lions were finally able to open their 2021 season, with Covid issues postponing their opening game by two weeks. In a road double header against Trine University. The Lions were able to split the double header, losing the first game in 5 sets 21-25, 25-18,25-27,25-32, 12-15. However in their second match they were able to come back and win in straight sets 25-23, 29-27, 25-21.
In the first game of the afternoon the Lions were able to post impressive stat lines. Senior Jason Hascher led the team in kills with 22, while Hayden Wood posted 11 kills and Jack Spohn added 10. Rey Sanchez was able to assist in 43 total kills. This helped the Lions take the first game to 5 sets ultimately falling short in the 5th set.
The second game turned out much different as the Lions were able to win in straight sets. The scoring for the Mount was very similar seeing Hascher lead the team in kills yet again with 17, Wood with 11 and Spohn with another 10. Sanchez once again led the Mount with an impressive 40 assists in a three set match. This effort allowed the Mount to leave Trine 1-1.
The Lions will be back in action Saturday, February 20th at the Harrington Center. The Lions will be taking on Olivet College, the game is set to start at 7PM. For more MSJ sports coverage continue to follow msjlions.com
