Lions split Final Games in Montgomery, Ala.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Montgomery, ALA – The Mount St. Joseph University softball team again took the field in Montgomery, Ala. where the Lions dropped the first game but bounced back with a dominant win in game two.

GAME 1 | MSJ 2 – Wartburg College 11

The first game on Sunday the Lions faced off against Wartburg College. The Lions struggled to find much offense in this game and fell down early to Wartburg in the bottom of the 1st. In the top of the 2nd Maiah Hodge tripled to left field to tie the game for the Lions at 1. But, this would be the only tie of the game.

Wartburg responded with a 3-run bottom half of the 2nd and they did not look back. In the top of the 4th the Lions were able to get one run back off an error. Wartburg responded with a big bottom half of the 5th where they scored 7 runs. The final score read 11-2 in Wartburg's favor after 5 innings.
 

Game 2 | MSJ 4 – Huntingdon College 1

The second game on Sunday the Lions faced off against the Hawks of Huntingdon. The Lions were able to wake up the bats early and got out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning.
Huntingdon was able to get one back though in the bottom of the 3rd making the score 2-1 in the Lions favor. But that wasn't all for the Lions. In the top of the 5th the Lions added 2 more runs via an Elizabeth Ivers single and a Gracie Woodyard sacrifice fly. This pushed the Lions lead to 4-1.
That was all for the Lions offensively but on the mound, is where the Lions did their damage. Kamryn McCool was dominant again for the Lions putting up great numbers for the second day in a row. McCool pitched 7 innings gave up 4 hits and 1 run that was not earned. McCool also recorded 9 strikeouts and walked 4.

Two hitters finished the game with multiple hits including Brooke Otto and Elizabeth Ivers. Otto went 2-4 and scored 2 runs while Ivers went 2-3 scoring 1 run and driving in another.  

UP NEXT:
The Mount (4-4) returns to action on Sunday March 7th, where they host Alma College at the Kinder Morgan Softball Complex for the 2021 Home Opener. The matchup will be a double-header with the games starting at 1PM & 3PM!
