Lions Win 5th Straight Taking Down Manchester 3-0

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, October 15th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions welcomed the Spartans of Manchester to Schueler Field for a HCAC matchup. Also, the Lions celebrated Senior Day Saturday recognizing 8 Seniors including Madison Hart, Zoe Sanford, Ashley Wilson, Julia Herzog, Catherine Hatfield, Hannah Surber, Lauren Boland and Renee Padavick. The Lions offense was dominant in the victory despite scoring all 3 goals in the second half. McKenzie Schneeman, Layla Youtsler and Delanie Simpkins were the trio of Lions to find the net as the Lions extended their win streak to 5 games.

In the first half the Lions were dominant controlling possession for most of the first half. The Spartans were prepared however, as they stacked their defense with extra defenders to withstand the Lions attack. The Lions finished the first half with an impressive 17 shots, 9 on target, but could not find the back of the net. After 45 minutes of play the Lions were still knotted up 0-0 with Manchester.

In the second half the Lions got off to a quick start. Following the second half kick-off the Lions immediately went on the attack. Layla Yousler would begin the attack with a pass to Jade Carroll who found some space just outside the box. Carroll then sent a pass forward to McKenzie Schneeman who was fouled from behind, in the box giving the Lions a penalty kick just 1 minute into the second half. The Lions elected Schneeman to take the kick and it paid off as she hammered the ball into the top right corner giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage.

Just like the first half, the Lions again dominated possession. Building off their momentum, the Lions continued to attack and were gifted another opportunity in the 55th minute. The Lions again found themselves in a great attack position following a foul on McKenzie Schneeman. Schneeman was fouled just outside the box from about 23 yards out. Lining up to take the kick was Freshman Layla Youtsler as a wall of Manchester defenders faced her. But, the wall was not enough as Youtsler sent a powering line drive kick just past the wall and into the bottom right hand corner of the net giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.

Following the goal the Lions continued to swap personnel to give the Spartan defense a different look. But, it wasn't until the final minute of the game that the Lions would build on their lead. Freshman Delanie Simpkins would receive a pass from Sydney Bell, slide past a defender and poke the ball to the bottom left hand corner of the net giving the Lions a 3-0 lead with just 1 minute remaining in the game.

The Lions defense continued their dominance as they weren't called on much throughout the contest. The Lions defense didn't allow a single shot and through 90 minutes, Senior goalkeeper Madison Hart added another clean sheet to her resume as The Mount defeated Manchester 3-0.

UP NEXT: Your Mount St. Joseph Lions are back in action this Wednesday, October 19th when the Lions welcome the Panthers of Hanover College to Schueler Field for a rematch of last year's HCAC Championship. Kick-off is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
