HANOVER, Ind. - On Wednesday, November 2nd your #4 Mount St. Joseph University Lions faced off against the top seeded #1 Hanover College Panthers in the HCAC Tournament Semifinal Match. The Lions fell to the Panthers by a close 1-0 margin in regular season play setting up a highly contested HCAC Semifinal Match. To open up play, the Lions fell behind early conceding in the 3rd minute and then again in the 58th minute as Hanover knocked off The Mount 2-0.
To begin the contest, Hanover attacked quickly scoring 3 minutes into the contest. The Lions responded nicely with a pair of shots from Layla Youtsler and
Kerigan Pollard but they could not find the target. But, Hanover kept the offensive pressure high. Goalkeeper Alyse Harris was impressive making 6 first half saves following the early score. The Lions headed into halftime trailing just 1-0.
To begin the second half, McKenzie Schneeman sent a pair of shots at the net for the Lions but could not convert. Hanover would then find a soft spot in the Lions 11 extending their lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute of play. Following the goal, the Panthers did not let up offensively. Each team scrambled to get shots on net as The Mount's Layla Youtsler,
Lauren Boland,
Poetrie Bedgood and
Molly Sheridan all sent shots hurling towards the net but the Lions couldn't mark the score sheet. After 90 minutes of play the Lions 2022-23 season came to a close, falling to Hanover 2-0 in the HCAC Tournament Semifinal.
