CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Saturday, September 17th your Mount St. Joseph University Lions played host to the Eagles of Asbury for a non-conference slate. The Lions offense has started to mesh adding three more goals to the season total on Saturday night.. Freshman
Layla Youtsler and Sophomores
Kerigan Pollard and
Ella Pittman all found the net for The Mount lifting them past Asbury 3-1.
To begin play the Lions came out flooding the net with shots.
Kerigan Pollard, McKenzie Schneeman and
Sydney Bell all got shots off in the first 15 minutes of play. Following the shot from Bell,
Paige Adams would step in front of an Asbury pass, directing the ball straight to Schneeman. Schneeman would then play a beautiful through ball to
Kerigan Pollard who would dribble past the goalkeeper and poke the ball into the back of the net giving the Lions a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
After the goal the Lions continued to control the pace of the game. After a pair of shots the Lions again found themselves in great offensive position.
Haley Trittschuh controlled the ball near the far corner. After evading a defender she sent a ball just to the edge of the box. Freshman
Layla Youtsler quickly stepped in front of an Eagle defender and hammered a shot to the top right corner smashing off the top crossbar and down into the net giving the Lions a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
After halftime the Lions returned to the field with a similar approach. The Mount continued to rush forward offensively tallying 9 shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half. With their 10th shot in the half, the Lions finally found the net.
Bailey Dotson battled for the ball just outside the box. After controlling the ball, Dotson would send a pass to
Ella Pittman who would crush a ball to the far left corner of the net, slicing just past the goalkeeper from 28 yards out. In the 67th minute of play the Lions held a commanding 3-0 advantage. But, the Eagles would manage to grab a goal back. The Eagles would score on a penalty kick goal in the 82nd minute of play to trim The Mount's lead to 3-1.
After 90 minutes of play, the Lions earned their third straight victory knocking off the Eagles of Asbury 3-1.
