CINCINNATI, Ohio - On Wednesday, October 25th your Mount St. Joseph University Women's Soccer team welcomed the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College to Schueler Field for their final regular season home match of the season. The Lions were dominant in the matchup scoring 5 1st half goals followed by 3 more in the 2nd half. The Lions totaled 59 shots, 33 on target, while holding the Yellow Jackets without a single shot. 6 different Lions scored in the contest and 8 different Lions registered at least a point in the victory.
The Lions got started early in the 1st half firing 12 shots before finally finding the net in just the 14th minute.
Alondra Sotelo would gain possession running down the near sideline Sotelo would then cross the ball into the box finding the foot of
Haley Trittschuh who poked the ball into the bottom right hand corner, past the diving goalkeeper to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. But, it didn't take long for the Lions to strike again. After a missed shot from
Kerigan Pollard, McKenzie Schneeman would gain possession just outside the 18 yard box. Schneeman would then dump the ball to
Mary Anhofer who would quickly dish it back to Schneeman. Schneeman would make a defender miss and from about 6 yards out, laser the ball past the keeper extending the Lions lead to 2-0.
The Lions again got to work quickly after a shot was saved off the foot of Sotelo. Following her shot and after a pair of corner kicks Sotelo would gain possession just outside the 18 yard box. Sotelo would then send a beautiful pass, splitting the Defiance defenders straight to the foot of
Mary Anhofer. Anhofer would get the ball, and with some fancy footwork deke out a defender hammering the ball from 10 yards out into the top left corner to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
Following the goal the Lions kept the pressure on Defiance. The Lions would send 7 more shots towards the goal before finding the net again in the 27th minute. The Lions would get their next opportunity off a corner kick. McKenzie Schneeman would step to take the corner from the near side whipping the ball into the box. As the ball floated into the box both
Molly Sheridan and
Paige Adams rushed to the ball with Adams getting a foot on it and pushing it past the keeper giving the Lions a 4-0 advantage. After 7 minutes of game time and 5 shots the Lions would get their final goal of the half. This time Schneeman gained possession along the far sideline as she dribbled to the towards the corner. Schneeman would then send a looping cross into the box finding
Layla Youtsler all alone in the middle of the box from about 5 yards out. Youtsler would position herself, jumping and heading the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Lions a 5-0 lead. The Lions registered 5 more shots in the half but entered the locker room with a hefty 5-0 advantage.
After halftime the Lions wasted no time adding to their lead. Schneeman would gain possession from about 30 yards out off a pass from
Molly Sheridan. Schneeman would race towards the net before dumping the ball to
Kerigan Pollard. Pollard would then quickly send a through ball to Schneeman who ran out of room by the net. In danger of getting out of bounds, Schneeman would send a short cross to Pollard who found herself wide open in the box from just about 5 yards out. Pollard would one touch the ball pushing right past the keeper for a 6-0 lead in the 48th minute. For the Lions 7th goal of the night,
Anna Best would gain possession at midfield off a pass from
Paige Adams. Best would then send a ball up to
Haley Trittschuh. Trittschuh would turn past the defender and hammer a shot towards the net from about 23 yards out. The shot would ricochet off the crossbar and then off the goalkeeper and into the net boosting the Lions lead to 7-0 in the 51st minute.
After 8 more shots from the Lions, they would score their final goal in the 62nd minute. The Lions final goal was a chaotic one, as
Mary Anhofer got the action started with a shot from inside the box that was blocked from a Defiance defender. Following the shot
Kerigan Pollard would pass the ball to McKenzie Schneeman who reared back and let it go from about 15 yards out but the ball slammed into the crossbar shaking the entire net. Following that shot
Kerigan Pollard gained possession juking out a pair of Defiance defenders before lasering the ball into the top right corner giving the Lions a 8-0 lead. Following that goal the Lions would tally 11 more shots but none found the net as the LIons flashed in their final regular season home game of the year.
Kerigan Pollard and
Haley Trittschuh led the way for the Lions both scoring a pair of goals. McKenzie Schneeman was also very involved scoring a goal herself while also assisting 3.
Alondra Sotelo wasn't able to find the net but was involved offensively assisting a pair of goals on the night.
