CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph women's soccer team opened their 2024 home schedule against Otterbein on Wednesday night. The Lions got behind early, and fought back but could not find a late equalizer eventually falling 3-2.
Otterbein got the game started with a goal in just the third minute of action. The Cardinals would go on to score three unanswered goals in the first half. Despite being down by three goals, the MSJ Lions continued to fight to stay in the match.
Late in the first the Lions finally found the back of the net as
Layla Youtsler got the Lions on the board in the 44th minute. Which reignited the Lion's hopes of a comeback. In the second half the momentum for MSJ continued as a
Paige Adams goal in the 53rd minute drew them within one. The Lions continued to fight looking for a late equalizer and even created a couple of chances, but eventually the clock hit zero and Otterbein secured the 3-2 win.
Defensively, the Lions' goalkeeper
Jordan Schneider had six saves while
Paige Adams and
Vivian Willis fought to defend their goal. Despite not gaining the result they wanted this Lions team showed some resiliency and fight to the final seconds.
