Rob Dearwester Tabbed to Lead MSJ Women's Wrestling

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) has announced the hiring of Rob Dearwester as the new head coach of the women's wrestling program. A nationally recognized figure in the wrestling community, Dearwester brings an accomplished competitive background and extensive coaching experience to the Lions.

Coach Dearwester will lead the women's wrestling program under the direction of Charles Mason who will oversee both the men's and women's programs.

Dearwester was a 2002 USA Greco All-American and has continued to serve the sport in leadership roles throughout his career. Since 2019, he has been the USA Wrestling Co-Director for Ohio, where he has played a central role in advancing women's wrestling across the state. He also led Ohio's Fargo women's national team, helping the program grow from 85 athletes at the start of his tenure to 123 competitors this past year.

On the high school level, Dearwester served as an assistant coach for the girl's team at Harrison High School's girls program from 2018–2025, helping guide the Wildcats to two team state championships and mentoring numerous individual state champions. His ability to build programs, develop talent, and inspire young athletes has earned him wide respect across Ohio and beyond.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Dearwester to the Mount," said Melanee Wagener Vice President and Director of Athletics at Mount St. Joseph University. "His passion for growing women's wrestling, combined with his proven success in both coaching and leadership, makes him the perfect fit to lead our program."

"I'm incredibly grateful to everyone involved in the decision-making process for believing in me and trusting me with this opportunity. I know there were many talented coaches considered for this role, and I don't take that lightly" Said Coach Dearwester.

"I still remember when Coach Mason asked me years ago if I'd ever be interested in helping start a women's program. At the time, I thought it was just a friendly conversation — but looking back now, it's humbling to see that he envisioned me coaching alongside him and his staff. To now be in this position is truly remarkable.

I'm excited to get to work with this dedicated coaching staff and to start building something special with our athletes. Together, we'll create a culture that supports growth, toughness, and excellence on and off the mat.

Thank you again for this incredible opportunity. I'm ready to hit the ground running "

At MSJ, Dearwester will focus on building a culture of excellence, resilience, and growth while positioning the Lions to compete on the national stage.
