NORTH MANCHESTER, INDIANA — The Mount St. Joseph University women's soccer team defeated Manchester University 6-0 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Lions came out strong, with Kendal Fox finding the back of the net in the 19th and 25th minutes. Both assists were credited to Layla Youtsler, giving the Mount an early 2-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, Preslee Rugg scored off a pass from Rachel Ginn, extending the Lions' lead to 3-0. In the 32nd minute, Preslee Rugg centered a pass to Mary Anhofer, who found the back of the net, giving the Mount a 4-0 lead. Kaitlyn Lampe scored four minutes later off Preslee Rugg's second assist of the game, helping the Lions go into halftime with a 5-0 lead. The Mount outshot Manchester 15-0 in the first half.
In the 74th minute of the second half, Abby Cole scored, giving the Mount a 6-0 lead. The Lions dominated this one from start to finish, outshooting the Spartans 26-3. The Mount also had 18 of those 26 shots on target. The Lions earned 10 corner kicks, compared to the Spartans' 2. The defense played outstanding, allowing only 2 shots on target the entire match, helping secure the 6-0 shutout victory. With this win, the Lions have clinched at least a tie for the HCAC regular season title and will secure the number one seed for the HCAC tournament.
UP NEXT: The Lions will wrap up the HCAC regular season on Tuesday, October 28th, when the Bluffton Beavers come to Schueler Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
