CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Mount St. Joseph University women's soccer team was defeated by Sewanee University, 2-0, at Schueler Field Sunday afternoon, dropping the Lions' record to 3-2-1.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams having opportunities to score. Kendal Fox led the Mount with three shots, two of which were on target and saved by the Sewanee goalkeeper. Macie Starr and Makayla Raynor also registered shots, while the Lions generated five corner kick opportunities. In the 36th minute, the Tigers were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box and converted to take a 1-0 lead.
The Mount came out aggressively in the second half as Rachel Ginn recorded an early shot on goal that was saved. Fox continued to pressure the Tigers' defense, recording three more shots, two of which were saved. As the half progressed, the Lions continued to apply pressure, with Mary Anhofer and Payge Callahan also recording shots. In the 86th minute, the Tigers found the back of the net to extend their lead to 2-0, which would be the final score.
UP NEXT: The Mount will look to defend their HCAC regular season title as they open up HCAC play traveling to Anderson, Indiana to take on Anderson University on Saturday September 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
