Darren Galllagher enters his fifth season at the helm of the Mount St. Joseph women's soccer program! In his fourth season at the helm coach Gallagher led the Lions to his first HCAC Championship and a birth in the NCAA D-III National Tournament. The Lions have put together a 45-25-11 overall record during his tenure!
In just four seasons leading the program the 2-time HCAC Coach of the Year has produced top-performers across the region, including HCAC League Award Winners: Vivian Willis (2x Defender of the Year), McKenzie Schneeman (2x Midfielder of the Year and 2021 Newcomer of the Year), and Ella Pittman (Offensive Player of the Year).
Coach Gallagher came to The Mount with a wealth of soccer coaching and administration experience at both the collegiate and professional level. During his time as a player at DIII Wisconsin-Oshkosh, he was a four-year letter winner and a three-time participant in the NCAA National Championship tournament. Coached by Toby Bares that run included the 2003 Final Four squad that was 21-1 and set records for: consecutive shutouts (9) and total shutouts (16) while only allowing 8 goals against all season.
After graduating, he immediately began his coaching career at his alma mater. He followed that up with stints at Ancilla College (NJCAA Division I), The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (NCAA DII), and the University of Illinois-Springfield (NCAA DII) and most recently at The University of Cincinnati (NCAA DI).Â
Gallagher also has experience at the professional level in both the MLS and USL, working for both the Colorado Springs Switchbacks (2017) and FC Cincinnati (2018-2019).Â
Gallagher holds a USSF (United States Soccer Federation) National B License, NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Goalkeeping Diploma, a US Soccer National Youth License and Rene Meulensteen Academy Certificates.Â
