Phil Gilmore

Phil Gilmore will enter his 2nd season as the Mount’s Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach for the 2022-2023 season.

This season, coach Gilmore's second saw some big highs including four women's tournament victories, the 2022 Stateline Shootout, 2022 Manchester Invitational, 2023 Spalding Invitationals and the 2023 Earlham Spring Invitational. Individual victories for Amy Smith (Stateline Shootout) and Pat Windholtz (Manchester Invitational). A third place finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, and a pair of All-Conference selections for Alyssa Haverstraw and Windholtz. Also, this season Windholtz shot a school record 71 twice in Fall of 2022, and set the 36 hole scoring record at Manchester as well with a 146 (75,71). 

In his first season with the Lions, the Women won the 2021 Stateline Shootout, including a school record performance by Patricia Windholtz with her 36-hole score of 156, leading to the individual title. The Women also finished in 4th place in the HCAC Tournament, matching their highest finish in program history. The Men finished in 7th place in the HCAC Tournament in a season highlighted by a career-low 70 by Cameron Lane at the 2022 Earlham Spring Invitational.

Gilmore is a 2014 graduate of The Mount, where we played 4 years for the Men’s Golf team under Coach Joe Sparhawk. During his career at The Mount, Gilmore was a two-time HCAC All-conference golfer (2012, 2014), including a GCAA All-Great Lakes Region honor in 2014. He won two individual titles, the 2011 Defiance Invite, where he shot a then school record of 68, and the 2014 Nye Intercollegiate, hosted by the College of Wooster.

Also, during his career for MSJ, the team received national attention by winning the 2013 Transylvania Invite, beating the #1 Transylvania Pioneers and several Top 25 teams, rising to a #2 national ranking after the first week in the fall season. Gilmore received the HCAC All-Sportsmanship award three times (2012-2014), was HCAC Player of the Week three times (April 3-11, 2011, September 8, 2013, April 14-20, 2014), and held a career average of 79.36 over 88 career rounds.

Prior to coaching at The Mount, Gilmore coached 6 seasons as the Boy’s Golf team at his alma mater, Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Ohio from 2014-2019, with his teams winning the SBAAC American Division Championship in 2018 and 2019, along with a back-to-back individual champion and OHSAA Southwest District qualifier. Gilmore also earned SBAAC American Division Coach of the Year Honors in 2018 and 2019. While at Wilmington, he had multiple players play at the college level, along with multiple individual qualifiers for the OHSAA Southwest District Tournament. Gilmore was also Assistant Baseball Coach at Wilmington High school for 3 seasons (2019-2021).
