Lions rebound from last week's loss by posting a 50-7 conference win at Bluffton University

The Mount bounced back from last week's home conference loss to Rose-Hulman, riding a strong rushing attack and a sound defense today as they won at Bluffton University, 50-7. The 50 points scored were the third-most ever by a Lions team while the 43-point margin of victory was the second-best in school history. The Mount (3-1, 1-1) will host HCAC-foe Anderson University (2-2, 1-0) on Oct. 11. Bluffton falls to 1-3, 0-1 with the loss.

The Lions scored all eight times they entered the red zone today, and rolled up an impressive 489 yards of total offense to Bluffton's 143. The Mount jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead, thanks to three TD runs by Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson). Davis finished the game with 79 rushing as the Mount totaled 303 yards on the ground on 60 rushes. The Mount added three more TDs runs in the second half. Noah Joseph (Atlanta, GA/Blessed Trinity) led all ball-carriers with 87 yards and had a TD while Tyrone Jones (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) and Thomas Taylor (Huntsville, OH/Indian Lake) added TDs. Vince Palmer (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson), who completed 15-of-23 passes for 151 yards, tossed a nine-yard TD pass to Tim Meiner (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) to open the scoring in the game.

Meiner led all receivers with seven receptions for 70 yards. Bluffton scored their lone points in the third quarter on a 45-yard TD pass. The Mount held the edge in first downs, 33-5 and time of possession, 37:23 to 22:37. They also converted 10-of-17 third down plays while holding the Beavers to one-of-11 on third down. Bluffton had 24 rushes for 31 yards in the game. Rocky Siegel (Cincinnati, OH/Glen Este), Kevin James (Okeana, OH/Ross) and Steven Ehrnschwender (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) had five tackles each as the Mount subbed liberally throughout the game.
