Lions fall to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on John Pont Tribute Night, 27-21

The Mount hosted Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology tonight on John Pont Tribute Night, and fell by a 26-21 score. The Engineers had taken a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter but the Mount tied the game at 14-all on a Tyrone Jones (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) three-yard TD run. The two teams traded touchdowns again and with the score at 21-all in the fourth quarter, Rose-Hulman (3-1, 1-0 HCAC) scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning touchdown on a two-yard TD run.

The Mount (2-1, 0-1) resumes action on Oct. 4 when they play HCAC-foe Bluffton University (1-2, 0-0). Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.

Jake Davis ( Cincinnati, OH/ Anderson) led the Mount with 102 yards rushing and a touchdown run while Jones had 49 yards rushing on just eight carries. Mike Zies ( Cincinnati, OH/ Anderson) caught a 14-yard TD pass from Vince Palmer (Cincinnati. OH/Anderson). Rocky Siegel (Cincinnati, OH/Glen Este) led all defensive players with 13 tackles.

Rose-Hulman produced 421 yards of total offense to the Mount’s 268 yards and held the advantage in possession time, 41:04 to 18:56.
