Box Score Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson)Â and
Noah Joseph (Roswell, GA/Blessed Trinity) led a strong rushing attack today for the Lions who posted a 45-38 HCACÂ opening game win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Mount (3-0, 1-0 HCAC)Â will host Bluffton University (0-3, 0-0 HCAC) on Oct. 3.
Davis rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught a 69-yard TD pass from
Craig Mustard (Mason, OH/Mason) as the Lions rolled up 541 yards of offense, including 278 yards on the ground. Joseph chipped in three touchdowns runs, and 87 yards rushing for the Lions.
The Lions jumped out to a 31-21 halftime lead, thanks to Davis' three scores. The closest the Engineers got to the Mount was within seven points, 45-38, when they scored a touchdown with 4:26 left in the game.
Mustard was 10-of-20 passing for one touchdown, one interception, and 263 yards.Â
Ben Parr (Bellevue, KY/Newport Central Catholic)Â led the defense with eight tackles while four other Lions had seven tackles each.
Alex Harbin (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) and
Mark Grieshop (Harrison, OH/Harrison)Â recovered fumbles.
Brian Weimer (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) was a perfect six-for-six in PAT kicks and added a 28-yard field goal.
