Jessica Smith scores overtime game-winning goal as women's soccer registers a 1-0 home win against Hanover College

Mount senior Jessica Smith (Lebanon, OH/Lebanon) scored off a scramble in front of the net after a Mount corner kick tonight giving the Lions a 1-0 win in double overtime over Hanover College. The Mount, 4-7-2 overall and 3-1 in the HCAC, will resume HCAC action on Oct. 16 at Anderson University.

The Lions' Ashley Maynard (Milford, OH/Milford) nearly won the game for the Mount in the second overtime, when she sent a shot just over the top of the Hanover goal 2:52 into the second extra period. Smith's game-winning goal came just 30 seconds after that shot. Shelbi Benzinger (Covington, KY/Scott) played the entire game in goal for the Mount, stopping nine shots for her third shutout of the season.
