Ashley Maynard (Milford, OH/Milford) scored twice today to help the Mount to a 4-0 HCAC victory at Anderson University. The Lions, 5-7-2 overall, are 4-1 in the conference and tied for first place with Transylvania University, Earllham College and Hanover College.
The Mount will play next at HCAC-rival Franklin University on Oct. 19.
Brittany Bowman (Hamilton, OH/Ross) scored the first goal of the game for the Mount in the eighth minute of play while Maynard added two first half goals to help the Lions jump out to a 3-0 lead at the intermission. Jessica Pykosz (Milford, OH/Milford) chipped in a second half goal as teammates Shelbi Benzinger (Covington, Ky/Scott) and Paige Apel (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) combined for the shutout. Benzinger had three saves in just over 77 minutes of play in goal.
