Visiting Franklin College used an accurate passing game and strong defense to jump out to a 20-3 lead at the half en route to a 41-10 win today against the Mount. The Lions, 3-1 overall, 2-1 in the HCAC, fall to second place behind the Grizzlies, who up their record to 4-1, 3-0.
Franklin scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions of the game, including a short rushing TD after intercepting a Mount pass and returning the ball to the Lions' six-yard line. Brian Weimer (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) got the Lions on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when he kicked a 40-yard field goal. Franklin would add four unanswered TDs in the game, as they rallied to stymie the Lions' offense throughout, to roll out to a 41-3 advantage. Quarterback Tyler Feine (Amelia, OH/Amelia) ended the scoring in the game when he ran in from a yard out with 11:45 left on the clock in the game.
The Grizzlies out-gained the Lions 528-159 in total yards in the game. Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) led the Mount with 28 yards rushing while quarterback Chris Howland (Loveland, OH/Loveland) was six-for-16 for 51 yards and threw two interceptions. Derick Tabar (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) had a team-high four receptions Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) had a game-high 12 tackles while Derek Termuhlen (Milford, OH/Milford) chipped in eight tackles a fumble recovery and an interception.
The Mount is back in action on Oct. 9 at HCAC-foe Defiance College (1-3, 1-1 HCAC).
