Mount football team records 54-6 win at Earlham College

The Lions broke out of their scroing slump in a big way today, scoring 35 points in the first half en route to a 54-6 win today at Earlham College. The win ends a three-game losing streak, as the Lions upped their record to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the HCAC. They will be back in aciton on Oct. 30 when they host Manchester College on Senior Day in conference action.

Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) scored the game's first TD on a one-yard TD run at 8:43 in the first quarter and the Quakers closed the margin to 7-6 with 2:44, but they would be held scoreless the rest of the game. James Clay (Louisville, KY/Manual Dupont) scored on a 93-yard TD run early in the second quarter, and Tyler Elrod (Harrison, OH/Harrison) recovered a block punt in the end zone, higlighting four unanswered scores to end the half. The TD run by Clay was a Mount record, breaking the former mark of 80 yards set by Jason Jackson (1991 vs. Rose-Hulman) and Mike Lovell (2004 vs. Bluffton).

Cory Babbington (Palo Alto, CA/Henry M. Gunn Sr.) recovered a fumble and returned it 53 yards for a TD late in the third quarter, as the Mount scored TDs in the game four different ways. Clay led the team with 98 yards rushing, as the Mount rolled up 329 yards on the ground, and 170 yards in the air, with Chris Howland (Loveland, OH/Loveland) going nine-for-14 for 160 yards and a TD. Derick Tabar (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) had three receptions for 95 yards and a TD.

Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) helped lead a Mount defense that held Earlham to just 2.9 yards per rush, and nine-of-25 passing for 170 yards, one TD, and two interceptions. Prosser had 16 tackles and a forced fumble.
