Lions' football team posts 24-13 win over Manchester College on Senior Day

The College of Mount St. Joseph football team rolled out nearly 500 yards of total offense as they knocked off Manchester College, 24-13, on Senior Day. The Lions, 5-3 overall, 4-3 in the HCAC, resume action on Nov. 6 when they play at HCAC-foe Hanover College. The game will wrap up conference play for the Lions in 2010.

The Lions led by a 10-6 advantage at the half today, thanks to a 27-yard field goal by Brian Weimer (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) and a 29-yard TD reception by Sean Keller (Maineville, OH/Kings) from quarterback Chris Howland (Loveland, OH/Loveland). The Spartans jumped ahead by a 13-10 score 10:02 in third quarter but the Lions answered that when James Clay (Louisville, KY/Manual Dupont) scored from four yards out to give his team a 17-13 advantage which they would never relinquish. Howland and Derick Tabar (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) hooked up for a 77-yard TD pass play at 10:10 of the fourth quarter to end the scoring. Manchester's last drive of the game ended when Joseph Howard (Cincinnati, OH/Hughes) intercepted a pass.

Clay finished with 80 yards rushing on 11 carries while Howland was 14-for-19 for 218 yards passing with one TD and no interceptions. Keller had four receptions for 46 yards while Tabar had three catches for 90 yards. The Mount out-gained Manchester in total offensive yards, 464-286 and went seven-for-16 on third down conversions.

Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) had a team-high eight tackles for the Mount. The Lions had 203 yards rushing while Manchester was limited to 103 yards on the ground.
