Lions' men's basketball team drops 81-74 decision at HCAC-foe Manchester College

Manchester College rolled out to a 40-18 lead at the half and held off a late second half charge by the Mount to post a home win tonight, 81-74. The Lions fall to 1-7 overall, 1-3 in the HCAC and return to action on Dec. 15 at Denison University.

The Spartans bolted out to a 22-point advantage at the intermission by shooting 42 percent from the field to the Lions' 18 percent field goal percentage and controlling the boards by a 37-18 margin. They pushed their lead to 59-27 at the 12:44 mark of the second half, and led by the same advantage with 10 minutes to play in the game before the Lions began to chip away at the Manchester lead. The Mount out-scored the Spartans 20-5 over the next five-plus minutes to cut the deficit to 17, 70-53 with 4:47 to play in the game. The Lions finally got the deficit down to under double digits, 81-72, with 28 seconds to play in the game - when David Lane (Hamilton, OH/Ross) hit a three-point shot - and Lane's lay-up with 12 seconds to play was the game's final margin.

Ben Haarman (Cincinnati, OH/St. Bernard) led all scorers with 27 points while teammtes Jordan Basye (Bloomington, IN/Bloomington North) and Lane added 11 points each. Lane had six assists and Alex Cole (Fairfield, OH/Ross) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. The Mount was out-shot from the field, 47 to 33 percent and out-rebounded 54-41. They forced 23 turnovers and committed 13 miscues.
