Mount football teams runs season record to 3-0

Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) scored two rushing touchdowns and Chris Howland (Loveland, OH/Loveland) completed 18-of-25 passes for 194 yards and two scores as the Mount won at Bluffton University, 31-10. The Lions, 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the HCAC, will host HCAC-foe Franklin College on Oct. 2.

Bluffton got on the scoreboard first today when they intercepted a pass and ran it back 70 yards for a score. Brian Weimer (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) hit a 30-yard field, and sandwiched around two Howland TD passes, one to Derick Tabar (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) and one to Ronald Regula (Miami/FL/Miami Palmetto), gave the Mount a 17-7 halftime lead. The Beavers narrowed the deficit to 17-10 when they kicked a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter but Davis padded the lead with rushing TDs - late in the third quarter and midway through the final quarter.

Davis finished with a team-high 62 yards rushing as the Lions totaled 157 yards on the ground in the game. Tabar had a game-high four receptions for 83 yards. Cory Ehrnschwender (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) led the Mount with nine tackles and he also recovered a fumble while teammate Sean Brooks (Edgewood, OH/Northmont) had two sacks. Will Palmer (Atlanta, GA/Westlake) chipped in two interceptions.

The Mount had 20 first downs to Bluffton's 12 first downs while out-gaining the Beavers in total offense, 370 yards to 207 yards. The Lions were nine-of-17 on third down while Bluffton coverted four-of-nine on third down. The Mount also held the edge in possession time, 36:24 to 23:36.
