Mount women's soccer team suffers 2-0 home loss to Earlham College

Box Score

Visiting Earlham College got a goal in each half today as the Lions dropped a 2-0 decision at home on Pink Game Day to Earlham College. The Lions, 2-9-1 overall, 1-2 in the HCAC, will be back in action on Oct. 12 when they play at conference-foe Hanover College.

The Quakers posted scores in the 25th and 51st minutes of the game, and withstood 16 Mount shots, including seven shots on goal as they recorded their sixth win of the season. The Lions were blanked for the seventh time in 2011.

“This was a tough loss today,’’ said Mount Head Coach Leah Todd. “Overall, we played well.  Earlham is a talented and fast team.  We were able to control much of the game and stay with their players, but we made a couple mistakes that they were able to take advantage of.

Our players knew they were playing for a greater cause today (Pink Day). They were very excited and motivated to perform well, and overall, they did.  (Defender) Lauren Bishnow played a superb game and (Goal Keeper) Shelbi Benzinger had some outstanding saves.

We’ll go out, this week, and prepare for our next conference match against Hanover on Wednesday.”
