Lions' men's basketball team captures Tip-Off Tournament title

David Mann (Fairfield, OH/Cincinnati Christian) and Clifford Cass (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Healthy) combined for 39 poiints and helped lead a second half charge for the Mount as they led their team to a 54-49 win over Centre College in the MSJ Tip-Off Tournament Championship. The Lions, 3-0, will be back in action on Nov. 23 when they host Thomas More College.

The Colonels shot 56 percent from the field in the first half, and connected on six-of-11 three-point shots, as they jumped out to a 28-25 advantage at the half. Mann tossed in 13 first half points, on six-of-10 shooting, while teammate Alex Cole came off the bench to add 10 points for the Mount.

The Lions grabbed the lead 31-30 at the 15:04 mark of the second half when Cass hit a jump shot, and pushed their lead out to a 45-34 advantage with 6:31 to play in the game. The Lions were aggressive on both ends of the floor, shooting 20 free throws in the second half, and conecting on 12, to the Colonels six-of-nine from the chartity stripe in the second half. The Mount out-shot Centre, 50 to 27 percent from the field in the second half of action. The Mount forced 18 Centre College turnovers.

Mann finished with game-high points (25) and rebounds (10) totals in the game while Cass chipped in 14 points and four assists. David Lane (Hamilton, OH/Ross) had seven assists. Cass was named to the All-Tournament team while Mann was named the Tournament MVP. Centre College's Greg Ross joined Ameche Okafor (Miami University Hamilton) and Corey Shontz (John Carroll University) on the All-Tournament team.
