Lions' men's basketball team loses HCAC road match-up at Anderson University, 72-45

Anderson University used a stifling defense, an accurate long-range shooting as they downed the visiting Mount today, 72-45. The Lions, 4-3 overall, 1-2 in the HCAC, will play next at non-conference rival Denison University on Dec. 14.

Anderson raced out to a 15-4 lead just 5:09 into today's game, as the Mount struggled with their shooting and the host Ravens were particularly effective from the free throw line and from behind the three-point arc in the first half. The Ravens held a 30-20 advantage at the half.

The Mount found itself down by a 41-22 margin at the 17:13 mark of the second half as the Ravens attack was relentless from all areas. Anderson finished the game connecting on 55 percent from the field, compared to 29 percent shooting for Lions. The Mount made only five-of-34 three-point shots, while the Ravens were seven-of-17 from long range. Anderson also made 17-of-24 free throws to the Mount's four-of-12 from the charity stripe in the game. AU held a 39-32 advantage on the boards but had 16 turnovers while the Mount committted 13 miscues. The Lions never led in the game and trailed by their largest margin of 31 points, 66-35, with 2:56 to play in the game.

Alex Cole (Fairfield, OH/Ross) led the Mount with eight points off the bench, while three other Lions' players collected six points each. VJ Evans (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) had six rebounds and three assists while 11 players in all scored for the Mount. Anderson University had three players score in double-digits.
