The College of Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team snapped a six-match losing streak tonight when they knocked off Bluffton University, in the HCAC opener for both teams, 3-2. The Mount, 3-10 overall, 1-0 in the HCAC, will be back in action on Sept. 23-24 when they travel to Ohio Northern University for the OAC/HCAC Challenge.
The Lions posted wins in sets one, 25-17, four, 27-25; and five, 19-17, while losing the second set, 25-18, and the third set, 25-22. They got a strong offensive attack, with three players collecting double-digit kill totals. Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) led the way with 23 kills and a .277 hitting percentage while teammates Kat Roedig (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) and Bethani Ritter (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had 14 and 12 kills respectively. Roedig added four blocks while Ritter chipped in 10 digs.
Jaclyn Stenger (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) led the defensive effort with 37 digs while Michelle Woods (Ft. Wright, KY/Newport Central Catholic) had 12 digs and three service aces. Torrie Whitmore (Mason, OH/Mason) had 52 assists, 12 digs and four blocks.
