James Clay (Louisville, KY/Manual Dupont) ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns, and the Lions' offense rolled up nearly 500 yards of total offense, as the Mount ran their season record to 3-0, 2-0 in the HCAC, with a 28-17 win at home over Bluffton University. The Lions will be back in action on Oct. 1 when they play at HCAC-rival Franklin College.
Bluffton jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, only to see the Lions score the game's next 28 points. Clay got the Mount scoring started in the second quarter when he raced in form 29 yards out and Zachary Gerber (Payne, OH/Wayne Trace) helped give the Lions a lead when scored on a TD pass from Brian Pitzer (South Salem, OH/McClain). Clay added TD runs in the third and fourth quarter - and Dan Dripps (Wapakoneta, OH/Wapakoneta) converted his fourth straight PAT kick of the day - as the Mount rolled out to a 28-10 advantage. Bluffton would close the scoring with a TD pass coming with 38 seconds to play in the game.
The Mount totaled 452 yards of total offense, with 285 yards coming on the ground. Clay's 132 yards rushing came on 10 carries while Pitzer added 88 yards rushing. Pitzer also completed 15-of-24 passes for 167 yards, a TD and an interception. Sean Keller (Maineville, OH/Kings) led the Mount with five receptions. Konnor Blevins (Cincinnati, OH/Lakota West) led the Lions defense, who held the Beavers to 322 yards of total offense, with 11 tackles, including two for loss yards, and an inteception. Derek Termuhlen (Milford, OH/Milford) also had a pickoff.
