Mount men's basketball loses at home to Hanover College, 58-43

Hanover College, the second place team in the HCAC, got solid long-range scoring and accurate free throw shooting to record a 58-43 win tonight over the Lions. The Mount, 6-12 overall and 2-9 in the HCAC, returns to action on Jan. 28 when they host Rose-Hulman.

The Panthers jumped out to a 28-22 lead at the intermission. They out-scored the Lions 9-0 from the free throw line in the opening half, but were out-shot from the field, 53 percent to 44 percent. Hanover pushed their lead out to a 14-point margin, 36-22 with 14:09 in the second half and led by as much as 18 points, 51-33 with 6:21 to play in the game. The Lions were never able to get the deficit under double-digits after the 18:07 mark of the second half, as Hanover shot 53 percent from the field in the second half, hitting five three-pointers in 10 attempts and going nine-of-12 from the free throw line.

The two teams were nearly even in the rebounding battle, with Hanover holding a 22-19 edge. Both teams committted 12 turnovers. David Mann (Fairfield,OH/Cincinnati Christian) led the Mount with 13 points while teammate Andy Countryman(Peebles, OH/Peebles) chipped in 12 points. David Lane (Hamilton, OH/Ross) recorded six assists while Danny Lane (Hamilton, OH/Ross) had four rebounds.
