Mount men's basketball team suffers 67-58 setback at HCAC-foe Transylvania University

Host and HCAC-leader Transylvania University shot 69 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from the Mount, en route to a 67-58 win tonight. The Lions, 7-15 overall, 3-12 in the conference, are back in action on Feb. 11 when they play at conference-foe Earlham College.

The Pioneers led by a 24-21 score at halftime, as both teams struggled with their shooting, with both at 32 percent accuracy. Transy pulled away for their three-point lead at the half, thanks to a late first half run which saw them take the lead, 21-19 with 2:54 to play in the first half. David Lane (Hamilton, OH/Ross) and David Mann (Fairfield, OH/Cincinnati Christian) had eight points each in the first half.

Transy pushed their lead out to 46-36 with 11:19 showing on the second half clock, as they connected on four-of-six three-point shots in the first 8:41 of the second half. The closest the Lions would get in the second half was to within seven points, the last at 8:37 after three free throws by Mann. The Mount carved down a 15-point disadvantage at the 2:13 mark, 65-50, to 65-57 with 34 seconds to play. Transy made five-of-seven three-point attempts in the second half, and went 16-for-18 from the free throw line as they swept the season series against the Lions, winning each game by nine points.

Mann and Lane each finished with a game-high 20 points, while teammate Aaron Barber (Canal Winchester, OH/Canal Winchester) collected eight rebounds. Mann chipped in five rebounds while Barber had three assists. Transylvania had a 30-23 edge on the boards, and committed 15 turnovers to the Mount's 12 turnovers. The Pioneers were 21-of-31 from the free throw line, while the Mount made 11-of-15 free throw attempts.
