Mount women's volleyball team goes 1-1 in first day action of home tournament

The Mount started off the first day of action on Friday at their Third Annual Charlie Wrublewski Invitional, falling to Maryille (TN) College 3-1 in the first match but taking the evening match over Birmingham-Southern College, 3-0. The Lions, 1-2 on the season, return to play in day two of the tournament on Sept. 8 when they take on Heidelberg University and Thomas More College.

Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) totaled eight kills and four blocks in the team's match against Maryville, while teammate Melanie Monahan (Mason, OH/Bishop Fenwick) had 21 assists. Seniors Michelle Woods (Ft. Wright, KY/Newport Central Catholic) and Jaclyn Stenger (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) each recorded seven digs in the match, as the Lions won the first set, 25-18, but dropped the last three sets and the match.

The Mount recorded 37 team kills in their victory over Birmingham-Southern, as they rolled to a 25-23. 25-21, 25-16 win. Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had 15 kills for the Lions while Monahan chipped in 29 assists. Torrie Whitmore (Mason, OH/Mason) led the defense with 11 digs while Stephanie Chisholm (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) recorded three blocks.
