Mark Allen (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) fired in 18 points to lead five Mount players in double figures as the Lions posted an 87-68 home win on Saturday afternoon over Franklin College. The Lions improved to 11-5 overall, and 8-2 in the HCAC, holding onto a first place tie with two others schools - Defiance and Rose-Hulman. The Mount is back in action on Jan. 29 when they play at Hanover College. The Lions defeated the Panthers earlier this season, 57-55.
The Lions bolted out to a 41-26 lead at the intermission today, out-shooting the Grizzlies from the field and free throw line, and out-rebounding their opponents by a 21-8 margin in the first 20 minutes of action. The Lions also forced seven, first half turnovers while committing just four turnovers of their own.
The Mount pushed the lead out to 45-26 early in the second half and were never challenged over the course of the rest of the game. The Lions made 13-of-16 second half free throws, and shot 57 percent from the field as they posted their eighth win in 10 conference games in the 2013-2014 season.
Allen connected on six-of-eight shots from the field, and six-of-six free throws, while adding four rebounds and three assists. Joel Scudder (Greendale, IN/South Dearborn) had 17 points, hitting four, three-point field goals, and added five assists. Andy Countryman (Peebles, OH/Peebles) and teammate Travis Combs (Manchester, OH/Manchester) chipped in 12 points each while David Mann (Fairfield, OH/Cincinnati Christian) )had 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Countryman also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
