The Mount's Olivia Weber (Edgewood, KY/Dixie Heights) scored a goal in the 27th minute of action on Tuesday afternoon, and the Lions' defense and goalkeeper Michelle Hessling (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton Badin) shut down host Bluffton University, en route to a 1-0 Mount victory. The Lions, 6-11 overall, 3-5 in the HCAC, will conclude 2014 play on Nov. 1 when the play at conference-rival Manchester College.
Weber scored at the 26:14 mark of the game, off a pass from teammate Mackenzie Money (Mason, OH/Mason), giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. The Beavers would pressure that advantage throughout the rest of the game, including the second half in which they took nine shots. Hessling recorded five saves in notching the shutout.
The Lions out-shot Bluffton, 20-16 in the game, including eight to five in shots on goal. The goal by Weber was her second of the season; while Hessling posted her fourth win and first shutout of the season.
