The Mount St Joseph University women's volleyball team pushed its 2014 record over the .500 mark on Wednesday night at Wilmington College when the registered a 3-1 victory over the Quakers. The Mount, 7-6 this season, will be back in action on Sept. 19-20 when they begin play in the HCAC/OAC Challenge, hosted by Bluffton University. The Lions will take on Ohio Northern University and Capital University on Spet. 19, and will play Muskingum University and Baldwin Wallace University on Sept. 20.
The Quakers grabbed the first set of the match, 27-25, out-hitting the Lions, .464-.212. The two teams played closely throughout most of the first set, with the Lions forging ahead, 25-24, on a kill by Jessica Wilgenbusch (Sunman, IN/East Central). Wilmington won the set, however, thanks to three straight points. The Lions rebounded to win the final three sets, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-20, scoring the set-winning points twice on Wilmington errors, and the final one on a kill by Cheyenne Tobler (Verona, KY/St. Henry).
Wilgenbusch keyed the offense with 14 kills and added eight digs. Hannah Losey (Tipp City, OH/Tippencanoe) added 14 kills as the Mount recorded 51 kills as a team and had a .261 hitting percentage in the match. Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) chipped in 42 assists while teammate Taylor Ruder (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) totaled 20 digs. Hannah Mossman (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) had four of the Mount's 13 service aces.
