Lions' women's volleyball team upended by cross-river rival Thomas More College

Visiting Thomas More College used a strong hitting attack and got a solid defensive effort on Friday night at the Harrington Center, as they defeated the Mount, 3-0, in the first match of the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament. Match scores on the night were 25-11, 25-7, and 25-23. The Mount slips to 2-4 with the loss and will be back in action on Sept. 6 when they face Heidelberg University and Westminster (MO) College.

Set one saw the Saints jump out to an 11-5 lead and 20-11 advantage before winning 25-11. Thomas More had a .450 hitting percentage in the first set. They led the second set 10-4 and pushed that lead out to 17-4, as they went on for the win thanks to hitting .500. The two teams played close throughout the third set, and after ties at every point from number 17 to number 22, the Saints recorded a kill to take a 23-22 lead. Holly Bronner gave the Saints a 3-0 win with a final for a 25-23 win.

Jessica Wilgenbusch (Sunman, IN/East Central) led the Mount with seven kills, while adding six digs. Taylor Ruder (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) had a team-high 10 digs while teammate Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) had 19 assists. Hannah Losey (Tipp City, OH/Tippecanoe) and Cheyenne Tobler (Verona, KY/St. Henry) each recorded six kills.
