THE BASICS
Mount St. Joseph University (7-4-1, 2-1 HCAC) defeated Anderson University (6-4-0, 2-1-0 HCAC) 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions came out fast and strong in the first half, scoring two goals. Maggie Tidwell scored a goal in the 13th minute, assisted form Morgan Knasel. Kaylan Gruber scored the next goal for the Mount in the 29th minute off a a deflected shot from that hit the crossbar.
In the second half, the Panthers showed some sparks, coming back with two unanswered goals. With time wrapping up Gruber scored another unassisted goal that proved to be the clincher. Mount St. Joseph held Anderson off for the two remaining minutes to win the game.
The Lions were on target tonight, having 14 shot with 11 being on target.
QUOTABLE
"Today we showed a lot of character and talent" said head coach Josh Hess. "We were really good in the 1st half and I thought we deserved to be up in the 1st half. However, Anderson responded really well and it was a tough 2nd half. Our team showed resilience and composure after the score was tied. I think the players should feel very good about their effort today."
STANDOUTS
Along with Gruber's two goals, she had three total shot on the night, all of which were on target. Taylor Clark also had three shots, with both being on target.
