THE BASICS
Mount St. Joseph University (7-9-1, 1-6-1 HCAC) pulled off a victory against Bluffton University (0-14-2, 0-6-2 HCAC) 2-1 on senior night in the team's second last game of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions dominated possession throughout the game, but Bluffton struck first in the contest, bending the ball right around senior Austin Cagle. The Lions had shots open the whole game but were unable to get them on target.
The seniors were honored at halftime of the game, which appeared to give the Mount a confidence boost.
Tyler Schumann started the comeback, scoring an unassisted goal in the 50th minute from a corner kick to put the Mount right back in contention with the Beavers. The Lions roared to life and started playing very physical. In the 60th minute, Alex Gross had the ball at the 50 yard line with a defender on his side. Gross slid to the ground and crossed the ball to an open Colton Lipps, setting him up perfectly for a goal.
Emotions started to fly towards the end of the game and play got even more physical. Yellow cards were given to both sides, with a red card given to the Lions towards the end. Despite the Mount down one player for the rest of the game, the Lions managed to still hold off Bluffton and earn the victory.
The Lions outshot Bluffton 17-6, with both teams having three shots on target.
