Combs scores 19 as Lions fall to Manchester 61-54

THE BASICS
Mount St. Joseph University (3-4) fell Saturday night to Manchester University (3-5) by a score of 61-54. The Lions went into halftime leading the game 28-24.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions started out slow in the first half, with the Spartans outscored the Mount 10-2 going into an MSJ timeout. After that, the Mount came to life. The Mount took its first lead of the game with 5:24 left in the first half by a score of 19-18.

The Spartans were held to no made free throws in the first half with both teams only going to the line four times combined. 

In the second half, the game looked like it would be in the Mount's favor after 5 minutes. The game took a turn when a Spartan player knocked down a three pointer to cut the lead down to six and gain momentum. Manchester hit two more three pointers in the ensuing minutes to give them a lead by one. From there, the Lions could not recovered. Manchester kept the lead extended it to as many as nine.

The Spartans shot 50% from the field on the night with the Lions shooting 53 percent. 

STANDOUTS
Travis Combs had a great night, leading the team in points with 19 and also rebounds with nine. Andrew Finley, who fouled out in the game, finished with 9 points and 3 assists. Erik Edwards also had a good game, ending with 15 points.

UP NEXT
The Lions take on crosstown rival Thomas More College on Wednesday at the Harrington Center with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
