Box Score Goals from a corner kick and a throw-in gave the menâs soccer team a 2-0 victory against Cincinnati Christian University on Tuesday night on Schueler Field at the Mount Athletics Complex.
Goalkeeper Austin Cagle (Independence, KY/Simon Kenton) did not allow a goal in the 88 minutes he played.
Tyler Schumann (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) had a good game for the Lions, scoring on a corner kick taken by Colton Lipps (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) in the 37th minute. Schumann put the ball in the net on a one touch shot. He finished with two shots, both of which were on target.
Schumann would later make an impressive save on a wide open goal after the opponent got beyond the keeper. Schumann read the opponent and put his body in front of the ball, saving the goal and preserving the shutout.
Teddy Kerr (Cleves, OH/St. Xavier) scored the other goal from an Alex Gross (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) throw in.
The Lions outshot the Eagles 21-7, only giving up one shot on target. They also had eight corner kicks on the night with CCU having two.Â
The Lions travel to Otterbein University at 7 p.m. Thursday.
