Women's volleyball ends conference challenge event 1-3

The Mount women’s volleyball team won a tough four-set match against Kalamazoo College, but fell to Albion College and were swept by Adrian College and Olivet College this weekend at the HCAC vs MIAA conference challenge.

The event took place Friday and Saturday in Adrian, Mich.

Friday results:

The Lions opened play with a 3-1 loss to Albion. Defense was the biggest difference as Albion registered 90 digs to the Mount'€™s 63. Jessica Wilgenbusch (Sunman, IN/East Central) led the Lions with seven kills on 30 attempts.

The junior Wilgenbusch led the Lions in the day’s second match as well with match-high 12 kills as the team defeated Kalamazoo 3-1. Taylor Ruder (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) added 24 digs.

Saturday results:

The Lions could not get the offense going in a 3-0 defeat against Olivet, hitting just .041 for the match compared to .344 for Olivet. Senior middle blocker Emily Bostian (Liberty Township, OH/Lakota East) led the Lions with eight kills.

The offense struggled to get rolling again against Adrian in the weekend’s fourth match with the Lions recording just 23 kills to Adrian’s 36 in the 3-0 loss. Wilgenbusch led the team with 10 of those kills and Bostian added three blocks.

The Lions return for their home opener in the Sixth Annual Charlie Wrublewski Tournament at 6 p.m. Friday in Harrington Center against Maryville (TN) College.
