Lions notch enormous win against conference rival Franklin

Box Score

LOCATION: Faught Stadium (Franklin, Indiana)

THE BASICS:

Mount St. Joseph (9-4-1) took advantage of a first-half goal and unbreakable defense to come out on top of Franklin College.  The win put them atop the conference at 5-0 in HCAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lions got some enormous plays from some familiar faces in their huge win at Franklin.  Midway through the 1st half Stefanie Autenrieb struck a strong shot into the back of the net to put the Lions up 1-0.  The rest of the first half was dominated by defense on both sides of the field.  For the last 15 minutes of the 1st half there were zero shots taken by either team, bringing the halftime score to 1-0 in favor of the Lions.

The second half featured two of the best defenses in the conference going blow for blow and limiting each other's scoring opportunities.  The 2nd half yielded only three shots for each team.  Both teams were held scoreless in the 2nd half of play, leading to a 1-0 victory in favor of the Lions.

STANDOUTS:

The entire Mount St. Joseph defense and goal-keeper Michelle Hessling deserves to be noticed as standouts in this match, as they shut out their opponents yet again.  Through the first five HCAC matches of the season the Lion defense is yet to allow a single goal.  In HCAC play the Lions have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 8-0.

UP NEXT:

The Lions will be at home on Wednesday to face off against Rose-Hulman.  The Lions will kick off at 7:00 PM and will look to notch another HCAC victory and remain atop the conference.
