Box Score LOCATION: Darrell Beane Stadium (Richmond, Indiana)
THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (4-3, 4-1 HCAC) traveled to Richmond, Indiana to take on the Quakers of Earlham. And the Lions dominated play from the opening whistle to the tune of a 61-7 win. It was the Lions 4th consecutive victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Quakers received the opening kickoff from the Lions. And on their 3rd play from scrimmage gave the ball right back to the Lions. Kenny Thorton picked off an Earlham pass and returned it 14 yards setting the Lions up with a short field for their first possession of the game.
The Lions didn't wait long to turn the mistake into points. On their second play Chaiten Tomlin hit AJ Glines for a 26 yard touchdown strike.
The Lions would hold Earlham scoreless again, and would score another touchdown on a 48 yard pass from Tomlin to Garrett Weaver. Weaver would have 4 touchdown receptions on the day.
The Lions offensive onslaught continued as Tomlin and Weaver hooked up again. And it was followed quickly by an 8 yard touchdown run by Mike Williams.
The Quakers would finally get on the board on their next series scoring on a 3 yard touchdown run by quarterback Wes Hundley. It would be the only score the Lions defense allowed on the day.
Due to the score the Lions were able to rotate in younger players to get playing time that could prove vital down the stretch of the HCAC schedule.
