Box Score LOCATION: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, Ohio)
THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (9-5-1) started slow but eventually tied the match in the 2nd half. However, it would not be enough as Rose-Hulman scored a goal late in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lions started out controlling the ball for the vast majority of the opening minutes of the game, looking strong. However, nearly 30 minutes into the game, Rose-Hulman broke onto the scoreboard first with a goal to make the score 1-0. This was the lead that the Engineers would take into halftime.
The second half started very slow, with limited scoring opportunities for both teams. That changed when Kara Vennemeier got a free kick from just outside of the box and was able to put it into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1. The Lions boost in momentum was short-lived, however. Only 30 seconds after tying the match the Engineers were able to break away and score a goal of their own, taking back the lead they had just surrendered. This would lead to a 2-1 victory for the Engineers.
STANDOUTS:
Kara Vennemeier played exceptionally well throughout the match and was the only Lion to find the back of the net. She was a great spark to the Lion offense after coming off the bench in this match.
UP NEXT:
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday afternoon with a huge conference match-up at Manchester. The Lions will look to rebound from their first conference loss of the season. Kickoff will come at 1:00 PM.
