Box Score LOCATION: Good Field (North Manchester, Indiana)
THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (10-5-1) started extremely fast and powered their way to their 6th conference win of the season. They were able to get back on track, winning their first game since their first HCAC loss of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mount St. Joseph looked like the stronger of the teams early on, controlling possession of the ball for the majority of the first half. The Lions, led by Kaylan Gruber, were able to notch two goals in the first 15 minutes of the match, giving them the early advantage. The first goal came less than three minutes into the game by Megan Grubb on an assist by Gruber. The second goal came about ten minutes later when Gruber herself was able to find the back of the net. Manchester was able to work their way onto the scoreboard near the end of the first half, making the halftime score 2-1 in favor of the Lions.
The second half of this conference matchup featured a lot more defense than we saw in the first half. Neither team was able to score for nearly the first 40 minutes of the second half. The scoring drought ended when Madeline Rechel broke through the Manchester defense with the help of an assist from Alley Schmidt, making the score 3-1 with less than 10 minutes to play.
STANDOUTS:
Kaylan Gruber looked like her usual self on Saturday, leading the team offensively. She was able to grab an assist on the first score of the game for the Lions and then score a goal of her own shortly after.
UP NEXT:
The Lions will take to the field again on Wednesday in another conference match at Hanover. They will be looking to pick up their 7th HCAC victory of the season and continue to push towards the conference tournament. Kickoff will be at 3:30 PM.
